This team project consisted of the design of a patient care and family room with the intent of understanding and implementing design based on research related to the effects of interior design on physical and psychological experiences in healthcare spaces. The objectives of the project included: presenting unique and creative solutions that promote healing and family interaction with patients, demonstrating an awareness of critical issues in the design of family zones in health facilities, presenting innovative and effective solutions for a sustainable design that promotes both environmental and occupant health, and applying sustainable strategies in both the design features and the design solutions. The renderings provided were intended to show a schematic design concept of a labor / delivery / recovery room that was focused on personalization for the mother, efficiency for the staff, and integration of the family into the care of the patient.
