CONCEPT

Wentworth Institute of Technology's Interior Design program is currently in need of a separate location near main campus to act as a vertical learning studio for students, professionals, and members of the public. The first two floors of the Hirbour Tower have been obtained for the design of a studio, meeting and review area, learning hub, reception and welcome space, faculty offices, restrooms, and storage space. Situated in busy downtown Boston, the site is designed to be a community oasis for creativity and a welcoming environment for displaced individuals wishing to become more educated on how design affects their lives.

Arx Interiors has prepared this schematic design as a foundation for the school to utilize its resources and assist the public in the effort to solve the crisis of homelessness in the Boston. The research based design combines the use of traditional Bostonian architecture with contemporary design features to create a space that feels well integrated with the surrounding neighborhoods and relevant with the current design trends and technology enhancements. Since Boston is one of the most "green" cities in the U.S., utilizing sustainable resources for the design was one of the major goals. Materials with recycled content, multi-functional furniture pieces, and fixtures with low-energy use were used as often as possible. This facility was designed to transform so that it can be used for a variety of functions, which makes it a great asset to the greater Boson community.
